Columbus, Ohio Window & Door Costs

What New Windows and Doors
Actually Cost.

A window price is more than the unit on the truck. The installation method, the glass, the trim, the height of the opening and the condition of the old frame all move the installed number. This site lays those costs out for Columbus homes before money is committed to them.

Quick Answers

Three of the questions that come up most often about window and door projects in Columbus — the FAQ has the rest.

Do I need a permit to replace windows or doors in Columbus?

Inside the City of Columbus, yes — even in the same size opening, with one exterior inspection when the job is done. Historic districts also need a Certificate of Appropriateness, and suburbs set their own rules.

Is there still a federal tax credit for new windows in 2026?

No. The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit ended for windows and doors placed in service after December 31, 2025. Windows installed in 2025 can still be claimed on the 2025 return.

Insert or full-frame replacement windows?

Inserts suit dry, square frames and keep the original trim. Full-frame replacement suits soft sills, past leaks and bedroom windows that need their full emergency-exit opening — and costs more per opening.
